What you can do to help! Hair drive 2011!

Back in January I blogged about a hair drive I was putting together for my dear friend with Alopecia (Hair drive blog part 1). I had such a good response from my friends and even some blog readers I have never met!

It is so expensive to buy "real hair" wigs. And it's a little cheaper to send in real hair and then have a wig made. It's still expensive, but a little less in total cost. At least 4 pony tails of hair are necessary for a wig. The length should be longer than 13 inches. Extra hair is great to have for maintenance as well.

So, I started thinking about how I could help. Then I thought... I could grow my hair to donate, and I'm sure there are girls out there that can as well! Why not donate what comes so easy to someone that could really use it?

I put that email address together and started getting lots of responses. I was so excited by the emails I received! How amazing that so many people wanted to help! My girlfriend sent the girls that had an interest in donating a personal email and then planning started!

As of today....

6 people in total donated! And I have 7 total pony tails!

That is just incredible! I was surprised that I actually got 2 pony tails out of my mane of hair! My friend Alexis and I went and chopped off our hair this afternoon! It was such a great feeling knowing that this was going to help a good friend. She is so excited and thankful! I can't wait until she sends the picture of the "final product".

Thank you to all the women that emailed me and participated! You are all incredible and amazing women. I'm thankful to know some of you and excited to get to know the others!

If you are interested in donating, please contact me at donateforwigs@gmail.com. I hope to help donate more wigs for people in need.

If you have already donated, please send pictures so I can attach before and after photos. :)

Hope everyone has an amazing Sunday.
Love,

  1. What an awesome thing to do! Personally speaking, I couldn't imagine living day-to-day life with Alopecia?! Your friend must feel so blessed to have you for a friend. In this life, all it takes is a little heart.

So you know, I'm newly following via the Crazed Fan Hop! I hope you have a great weekend, too!
